My jaw nearly dropped when I started to do some research on Gentle Whispering ASMR. Like, really. These numbers are so insane I had to share them with you.
If you don’t know what ASMR is, it stands for, “Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response” and people LOVE it. The term was coined in 2010 and has been quite the YouTube phenomenon after that.
Just a year later In 2011, is when Gentle Whispering ASMR uploaded her first ASMR/Whispering video. Back when audio was kinda shitty and camera quality was subpar.
Now, she makes over $422K in annual income and uses a much nicer camera and microphone.
We all gotta start somewhere.
But how did she do it? How did she create such a loyal fan base of 2.13M ASMR subscribers?
Not only that, but she was the very first ASMR channel to reach over 1 Million on YouTube. We can go as far as to call her the pioneer of ASMR.
Now, I don’t fully understand the hype around ASMR. But I will say, it’s rather soothing to listen to. However, as a rat, the only sounds I’ve come to like are the sounds of my owner filling up my food bowl in the morning.
Ah, sweet sweet serenity.
Anyways, this YouTube channel really caught my attention. She found a way to make so much money she quit her job in a medical office and became a full-time content creator in 2017.
The ironic part is, her followers say her videos are like a sleeping aid that helps relieve their anxiety, stress, and sleeping disorders. I guess one could say… she never left the medical industry.
Hehe, get it? Hmm? No..? Alright, whatever. Let’s get back into it.
No, but really, she knows how to get people going with all of these sounds. It sends shivers down my small little rat spine! I can’t imagine what it feels like for a human.
What’s really impressive is they just keep coming back for more. Her video titled *_* Oh such a good 3D-sound ASMR video *_* was uploaded in 2012 and currently has 23 million views.
23 Million!? On a 16 minute video!? That was made in 2012?? How does she do it??
It’s pretty insane how she’s been able to build her YouTube fame over the last 11 years and has become somewhat of a celebrity in the YouTube space. She’s been featured in Washington’s Posts articles, was recognized as the “the premier celebrity of a controversial but increasingly recognized phenomenon” in 2014, and a “YouTube’s preeminent ASMRtist” in 2019.
Now, I wouldn’t go as far as to say ASMR is controversial. It’s literally just sounds. Let her give the people what they want!
Not only that but one of her videos was even sampled in my cousin’s song, “Terror in My Head.” in 2014.

Anyways… ASMR has definitely increased in popularity over the last few years. However, no matter what top charts list you look at, you can be sure to see Gentle Whispering ASMR at the forefront.

It doesn’t matter if it’s for videos she created in 2012 or 2022. She’s got a loyal fanbase and sometimes, that’s all you really need.
