Today’s phones have powerful specs that can level up with standard video cameras.
Whole movies have been shot on iPhones and Samsungs. Just a quick search on the internet about that and you’ll be amazed at the quality of these videos.

Preparation
Factory reset to clear space
- Gets rid of unwanted files and apps
- Everything is reset back to default
- You can start from scratch and just install the necessary apps to shoot or edit video
- You can use the default camera app but there are 3rd party apps that also utilizes the camera but have built in filters
- Clean your lens
- Front or rear camera
- Tripod
- Enable Airplane mode
Signup for a cloud storage service so it automatically syncs
- There are proprietary cloud storage by the manufacturer
- iCloud for Apple, Samsung Cloud there’s also something by Huawei, etc
- Mostly free but there are paid cloud storage that offers great technical support like Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft One Drive

Decide on how to record audio, here are some options
But first, you need to record sound separately, you need to record audio on the phone too. This will be used as a reference later on in post edit.
- Record using a shotgun mic attached to your phone. (no separate recording. Only replaces mic to record on phone footage) (Rhode Video Micro)
- Use another phone to record separately, attached a lavalier mic for simple interviews or attach a boom mic for movies
- You can always use the built in mic
Tip: When recording separately, always use a clapperboard to easily sync audios in post edit.
